Stoneybatter Redbrick

Drawing light into these traditional two-up-two-down Dublin Artisan Dwellings can be a challenge. Here we addressed this by incorporating frameless, recessed skylights into the design, by creating an external courtyard, and by using glass in furniture, the stairs bannister and in a steel divider that keeps much-used bicycles near the front door, but out of sight. By using the same wood chevron flooring throughout the ground floor, there is a continuity of flow, which is playfully interrupted by patterned tiles, which act as ‘view frames’ that delineate each area and lead the eye throughout. To finish, brass and LED light fittings help create a sense of warmth, while rich velvet fabrics in midnight blue and mustard add splashes of colour that complement the client’s artwork. The final design is bright and vibrant, much like the homeowners.
