Description: 2 bed house
Lauded by celebrated architect Hugh Wallace as “a masterclass in ergonomics”, this diminutive home earned itself a place on the final of RTE’s Home Of The Year in 2019. This red bricked terrace had been abandoned for 15 years before being brought back to life with a full internal rebuild & renovation. Due to the small stature of the building, spatial planning was key to the success of the design. The ground floor was opened up entirely, with the stairway designed to separate living areas, yet continue to let light in. A small office was placed under the stairs, with a light well above on the roof to bring additional light down to the ground floor. A split-level bathroom was designed to make room for the positioning of the stairs. The laundry area was moved to the exterior of the property with glass doors opening out onto an external mural to give a feeling of greater space and give a point of interest. Further storage was created within the corner banquette seating & book shelves were built around the perimeter of the ceiling to retain a feeling of space on the walls.
