Behind the traditional pointed arch and doorway to this period property lies a cheery entrance, with a statement tiled floor, and original cottage doors on either side painted in bright yellow. Hidden away in the CIÉ works estate, this three-bed house required a complete renovation – including kitchen, bathroom, electrics, replastering and finishes throughout. With the homeowner away, all work was managed remotely and seamlessly. The countryside feel of this walled estate in Dublin 8 is echoed in the country-style kitchen, complete with panelled joinery, timber worktops and a Belfast sink. Natural materials abound from the flooring, to the furniture, which are lifted with wallpaper and colour accents, while tactile lighting is made from leather and ceramics. The client wanted something “bright, colourful, and not too run-of-the-mill”, but also to retain the original charms of the house.
